Caraval

The game lasts five nights, and no one knows any more what is real.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber is the first book in the series of the same name and begins with two sisters who want to get away from their island and their harsh father. Scarlett has dreamed of Caraval for years, the legendary performance in which the audience plays along, and she finally receives an invitation. Together with her sister Donatella and the inscrutable sailor Julian, she ends up on the island where the game is staged. When Donatella disappears, the task is suddenly simple and deadly at the same time: find her before the game is over.

A romantasy full of illusions, bargains and night-time streets where nothing is what it seems, suitable from around age fifteen. If you love atmosphere, mystery and slow-building romance, this is a lovely way into the genre. This Dutch-language paperback has digitally printed edges and, together with Meester Legende and Finale, completes the trilogy.
