  • Big Bad Wolf

    by Laurie Gilmore

    Romance

- Tea & Tales

    by Suzanne Collins

    Young adult

- Tea & Tales

Which Dutch books will you find here?

About half of this collection is fantasy and romantasy: the courts of Sarah J. Maas, the dragons of Rebecca Yarros and the dark romance of Ana Huang. There's also a generous shelf for children and young readers, with Paul van Loon, De Grijze Jager and De magische apotheek by Anna Ruhe. And if you love classics, you'll find a small row here too.

Which English series are available in Dutch?

That's the question we're asked most often, and the answer differs per series. Sometimes a book gets a Dutch title, sometimes the publisher keeps the English title.

Translated, with a different title:

  • A Court of Thorns and Roses is called Hof van doorns en rozen in Dutch
  • The Lord of the Rings is In de ban van de ring, preceded by De hobbit
  • Ranger's Apprentice is De Grijze Jager
  • Mistborn is De Nevelmensen
  • Outlander is Reiziger

It can also happen that the title has stayed English while the book itself is in Dutch. So set the language filter to NLD, and you'll know for sure you have the right book.

Reading in Dutch or English?

You used to have to wait a long time for a translation, but for the big series that's over. The Dutch edition now often comes out on the same day as the original: ACOTAR 6 and 7 are released in both languages on 27 October 2026 and 12 January 2027. What's left is a matter of price and feeling.

Does reading in English take too much concentration? Then feel free to choose Dutch. You'll read just that little bit more easily, and in the end that's what it's all about.

Children's books and reading aloud

Over a quarter of this collection is for children: picture books to read aloud, Paul van Loon's spooky series for those just starting to read on their own, De magische apotheek by Anna Ruhe and Het leven van een Loser. Not sure what suits which age? Ask us in the shop, we're happy to help.

Dutch editions with sprayed edges

Dutch publishers are also releasing their fantasy and romantasy with sprayed edges more and more often. The complete Dutch ACOTAR series from Van Goor is a lovely example, and there are more on this page.

Want to see them side by side? Take a look at the special editions. There you can also read the difference between an edition with sprayed edges and a regular print.

Frequently asked questions about our Dutch books

Are all Dutch editions translations?

No. Some Dutch editions keep the English title, such as Fourth Wing, Powerless and Twisted. The book is simply in Dutch, only the title on the cover has stayed English. Not sure? Check the language on the product page.

Does the Dutch translation come out later than the English?

For the big series, usually not any more. ACOTAR 6 and 7 come out in Dutch on the same day as in English, on 27 October 2026 and 12 January 2027. For smaller titles there can still be months between the two.

Why is the Dutch edition more expensive than the English?

A translation costs money, and the print run is smaller, because the Dutch-speaking market is simply smaller than the English one. That's why a Dutch edition is often a bit more expensive than the same title in English.

Do you have complete series?

Some, yes, others not. We have Harry Potter complete, and the first books of De Grijze Jager. What you see here is actually in the shop. Missing a book? Just let us know.

From what age are the children's books suitable?

That ranges from picture books for reading aloud to books for young people aged twelve and up. Most titles have an age indication on the book itself. If you're not sure, come by and we'll take a look together.

Can I take a look at the books in the shop?

Yes. Everything on this page is in our shop at Van Oldenbarneveltstraat 142A in Rotterdam. You can also order online and pick up your books in store.
