Days at the Torunka Cafe

In a small café in Tokyo, three people come together who have briefly lost their way.

Days at the Torunka Cafe by Satoshi Yagisawa is set in a neighbourhood café where the regulars slowly get to know each other. Chinatsu Yukimura comes in regularly and leaves napkin origami behind without explaining why. Hiroyuki Numata is halfway through his life and misses something he once gave up himself. And Shizuku, the owner's teenage daughter, is grieving for her sister while falling in love for the first time. The café brings their stories together.

A quiet Japanese novel in the spirit of Before the Coffee Gets Cold, by the same author as Days at the Morisaki Bookshop. Perfect for a rainy afternoon with a pot of tea beside you, because the pace is gentle and the chapters are short. Do not expect big twists, but people who carefully find their footing again. This English edition is a hardcover with a special finish, translated by Eric Ozawa.
