De wrede prins

De wrede prins is book 1 in the Elfhame series by Holly Black. This Dutch edition is a hardback of 352 pages, translated by Anne-Marieke Buijs.

What is De wrede prins about?

Of course I want to be like them. They are beautiful, like swords forged in a heavenly fire. Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him most of all. I hate him so much that sometimes, when I look at him, I can hardly breathe. When Jude was seven, a strange man came by: a man with odd clothes, pointed ears and a voice like thunder. Before Jude knew what was happening, he drew a sword and murdered her parents with it. Jude and her sisters had to go with him, far away to the faerie land of Elfhame.

Ten years later Jude is a rebellious young woman. She has a hard time in Elfhame: she faces discrimination because she is human, and is sometimes even threatened. The arrogant Prince Cardan is the worst of all, so why does she always feel so hot when he is around? The tide turns when Jude is recruited as a spy by Cardan's brother, Crown Prince Dain. As her spy training progresses, she gains confidence and makes new friends. At last she seems to have found her place. But in Elfhame nothing is what it seems, and the higher you fly, the deeper you can fall…
