Het laatste rijk

Het laatste rijk is book 1 in the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. This Dutch edition is a paperback of 640 pages, translated by Rien van der Kraan.

What is Het laatste rijk about?

For a thousand years ash has fallen from the sky and no flower has bloomed. For a thousand years the skaa have lived in fear and misery. Because for a thousand years they have been oppressed by the Lord Ruler, the untouchable Sliver of Infinity, who rules with an iron fist and absolute power. But when all hope has gone, when people no longer even know what hope is, the half-skaa Kelsier discovers in the Lord Ruler's hellish prison that he has the mysterious gift of the Mistborn: the ability to draw powers from metals, which he can use to bring down the Lord Ruler. At that moment the seed is sown for a titanic conflict, a power struggle of immense scale that will claim many lives. But Kelsier is determined, and he is not alone in his quest to topple the Lord Ruler. Among the Allomancers of the Mistborn he finds driven allies. And that is not all: his path crosses that of a young woman, Vin, an orphan and, just like him, half-skaa. Their first meeting does not exactly go smoothly. Vin, who has learned the hard way, no longer trusts anyone. Not even Kelsier...
