Old King Mansolein lives in a copper castle. He is so old that only a miracle cure can save him. A doctor sets off on a journey in search of the keywort, the miracle cure. Along the way he sends the animals, the inhabitants of the kingdom, to the king. They have to tell him stories to keep his heart beating.

In 1965 'Het sleutelkruid' was named Children's Book of the Year, and in 2005 it was one of the nominees for the prestigious Griffel der Griffels. For this edition, Linde Faas created warm, distinctive illustrations for 'Het sleutelkruid', so the book can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Paul Biegel is the master storyteller of the Low Countries and one of the most beloved voices in Dutch children's literature. His work earned him, among other awards, four Zilveren Griffels and two Gouden Griffels.
