What is De Grijze Jager 1 - De ruïnes van Gorlan about?

Will is small for his age, but lightning fast and far from stupid. All his life he has dreamed of becoming a knight, like his father, whom he never knew. So he is bitterly disappointed when he is turned down for Castle Redmont's battle school. Instead he is apprenticed to Halt, the mysterious Ranger whose greatest talent seems to be moving through the kingdom unseen. Somewhat reluctantly, Will learns to use the secret weapons of the Rangers: the bow and arrow, an inconspicuous camouflage cloak and a stubborn little pony. Even though Will longs for a sword and a mighty battle horse, when he goes on a secret mission with Halt to prevent the murder of the king, he discovers that the Rangers' weapons are not so bad after all. De ruïnes van Gorlan is the first book in the De Grijze Jager series about Will and his friends from Castle Redmont. Also read the second book: De brandende brug
