Grimm

Grimm is a book by Brothers Grimm. This Dutch edition is a hardback of 558 pages, translated by Ria van Hengel.

What is Grimm about?

Grimm's fairy tales are an inseparable part of our society. Between the famous opening and closing lines 'once upon a time...' and 'they lived happily ever after', countless adventures unfold, featuring hordes of gnomes, wicked wolves, fairies and evil stepmothers. But almost always the good overcomes the bad (although sometimes only just), and the child can go to sleep in peace.

Since 2006 there has been the new Grimm: an edition that looks like a picture book; a book in which children can not only drift off into the enchanting stories, but which also has an illustration on every page, where no two princesses are the same and every fairy tale has its own atmosphere.

For this special edition, Charlotte Dematons created hundreds of full-colour illustrations, sometimes full-page and forming a whole with the text, sometimes small miniatures loosely scattered through the fairy tales.

Ria van Hengel made a completely new translation of the complete original German edition, managing to tell the fairy tales in a clear, accessible way without losing the rich imagery of the original text.

Tea & Tales is a bookshop and tea house on the Van Oldenbarneveltstraat 142A in Rotterdam. Grimm is on the shelf here and can be ordered online.
